A recent truck accident in São Paulo, Brazil, caused a chemical spill that turned the Jundiai River and its wildlife a blue. A truck carrying containers of a blue industrial dye lost control and collided with a utility pole. The impact caused the containers to rupture, and the dye solution leaked into the Jundiai River.

The spilled substance is an organic dye made with acetic acid. While it’s not considered highly toxic in small quantities, its release into a rivers, streams and lakes can significantly disturb the local ecosystem. It’s commonly used in the production of packaging materials like Styrofoam and egg cartons.

The most striking immediate effect was the water turning bright blue, along with ducks, geese, and other animals in the river also being painted blue. Also, there have been reports of dead fish floating in the blue-tinted water, indicating a severe impact on aquatic life. That industrial blue chemical also reduces light penetration, which can disrupt photosynthesis in underwater plants.

Environmental officials and rescue teams are working to contain the spread of the chemicals, monitor contamination levels, and rescue and treat affected wildlife. Brazilian environmental authorities have launched an investigation regarding this event. The incident has raised serious concerns about industrial safety and environmental protection in the region, with environmental groups calling for stricter regulations.

Subjective comment: Now, it is blue water literally! Maybe you wish to get there to swim with blue colored animals and to get blue yourself too? Scientists and researches for years (if not decades) so far are warning people to be careful with chemicals, but seems it is useless as people are using chemicals even more.
