Powerful cyclone Gezani killed at least 30 people in Madagascar

The situation on the ground is quite dramatic. It is about Cyclone Gezani, which has just created chaos on the east coast of Madagascar these days (Tuesday and Wednesday, February 10 and 11, 2026). The official death toll has risen to at least 30 people. Most people died due to the collapse of houses and walls. Wind speed is about 250 km/h, while the constant speed was around 195 km/h. This makes it one of the most intense cyclones to hit this region in the last few decades. The city of Toamasina (the country’s second largest and main port) was directly hit. Reports say that as many as 75% to 90% of houses were left without roofs or completely destroyed. ,,Total chaos” prevailed as there was no electricity, communications were down, and trees and metal sheets blocked all roads.
