Yes, this data is truly devastating and unfortunately, it confirms the findings of numerous studies that point to huge inequality in greenhouse gas emissions. Reports from organizations like Oxfam and research published in scientific journals like Nature Climate Change continuously show that a small percentage of the richest people on the planet have a disproportionately large impact on climate change.
The richest 10% of the population is responsible for a significant portion of global emissions, often over half or even two-thirds of total emissions. In contrast, the poorest half of humanity emits a very small percentage of total greenhouse gases. The emissions of the rich directly contribute to the increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as heat waves and droughts, especially in the most vulnerable regions.
High levels of consumption and investment in carbon-intensive industries by wealthy individuals contribute significantly to their large carbon footprint. This includes things like frequent flying, owning large vehicles and homes, and investing in fossil fuels. This inequality in emissions raises questions of climate justice, as those who have contributed least to climate change often suffer the most from its consequences. Research suggests that progressive policies are needed that target the emissions of the wealthiest, including wealth taxes and carbon-intensive investments.
Actually these people have no moral, honor and sense. They pollute planet, travel often in their expensive planes, all for profit, and all above someone else’s back, but on other hand their mouth is full of environmental protection and philanthropy. They do speak what masses globally want to hear, while in turn they grow more rich as time passes. That is their vision of ,,green planet”.
