Toxic foam in Australia covered two beaches, causing dead fish and poisoned surfers

During this weekend there has been a concerning event involving white toxic foam in South Australia covering hundreds of meters. The issue happened in Waitpinga Beach and Parsons Beach, south of Adelaide, South Australia. An unusual white foam has washed ashore, accompanied by dead fish. It has been reported that dozens of other marine animals died as result of this. Surfers also have reported experiencing symptoms like sore eyes, sore throats, and coughing after contact with the water.

There are concerns about the impact on both marine life and human health. Authorities and scientists suspect a microalgal bloom as the cause. They believe the bloom may have been triggered by recent hot and dry weather conditions and that foam is a byproduct of the decaying of those toxic organisms. Investigation is still ongoing.
